Science Olympiad United Kingdom is a national non-profit initiative dedicated to improving the
quality of primary and secondary schools’ science education, increasing male, female (pupils/students) interest in science, creating a technologically-literate workforce and providing recognition for outstanding achievement by both students and teachers.
These goals are achieved by participating in Science Olympiad tournaments and non-competitive events, incorporating Science Olympiad into classroom curriculum and attending teacher training programs.
We host tournaments annually on college campuses across England,
Wales, Scotland and Northern Island, and hold professional development Coaches’ Orientation workshops that showcase innovative science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

There are many benefits to becoming part of Science Olympiad UK:
There is a great need to create a scientific tradition and platform for grooming UK’s would-be science and technology leaders of tomorrow thereby engendering home grown (indigenous) science and technology.
As a School team/Coach/administrator, receive your own copy of the Science Olympiad Rules Manual (annually updated description of events and parameters of competition). Whether you compete in Science Olympiad tournaments or not, use the rules manual to teach science ~ many schools have Science Olympiad classes. With annual changes, you’ll have a great resource for students to learn and to love science.
Enrolling your school grants you admission to a Science Olympiad UK tournament. Top teams from each local government council tournaments advance
to the regional tournament, and on to the UK wide tournament at no additional charge.
*No registration fee to compete, although teams need to pay their own travel to attend tournaments.
Most important of all, being part means enriching the education of pupil/students in UK (England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Island), and opening young minds to the exciting world of science!
Science Olympiad comes in many shapes and sizes to fit your needs. At the primary school (Division A) level, the Elementary Science Olympiad (ESO) program offers various formats, including competitive tournaments, hands-on “Science Fun Days,” or expert-led “Science Olympiad Fun Nights.”
In both primary and secondary classes, Science Olympiad functions much like a sports team, requiring preparation, commitment, coaching, and practice throughout the year.
Each school-based team consists of 12 students who cross-train for various events.
Many participating school clubs utilize an apprentice and mentoring system to help students develop their skill sets.
The program encourages active, hands-on participation, bringing together students, teachers, parents, and business leaders toward a shared goal.
Competitions are organized like academic track meets, consisting of nearly 50 team events across Division A (Primary), Division B (Junior Secondary), and Division C (Senior Secondary).
Teamwork is a vital skill in scientific careers, and Science Olympiad events are designed to forge unique alliances.
The journey through local and state tournaments culminates in the Science Olympiad National Tournament, hosted at a different university each year.
